The first time I've ever really drawn one of my friends...I remember a while ago, we were still in high school and in our Humanities class -- having a good time with Schneider and art and jokes. Well, I realized I really wanted to draw her. She is (with no offense to my sexeh pretty friends :3) the most gorgeous person I know. She's talented and funny and nice and wonderful. And she's just...Jessica. I can't explain it. She used to intimidate the hell out of me because I thought she was too perfect to exist -- but when I became friends with her, I just discovered that she was a beautiful person inside and out. I wanted to capture it somehow. And it's the first time I've really had a desire to draw someone I knew...Normally I'd be petrified to do that, because if I drew them weird or something they might take it personally. But yes...I drew Jessica in this picture back March or something, and I did the background/clothes this week. A bit pathetic, but...what can I say? When I wanted to draw Jessica, I did not want to draw what was behind her. XD

Anyway, I love this. I must thank you, for I found this as a result of my disgust with what's been on deviantart lately, which led to a desperate search for good art. This is good art.
How'd you find it, then? @_@
(And I'm a horrible person, and only come onto DA to reply to comments on my own stuff. XD I haven't looked through the front page or other people's art for forever...is it really going downhill?)
Yeah, it's pretty bad. All I ever see anymore is digital crap, fantasy, and fanart, or the same old cliche concepts. There isn't much with unique personal meaning or the artistic elements taken into account and used in interesting ways (composition, angle, color, etc). Sure, there's good stuff, but I used to find a lot more art that really caught my eye. I've been taking a lot of people off my watch list lately. x_o
Not to mention all the complaints with the new system, which are justified. Some unusual things have been getting into the "popular" section, since it's now not only based on number of favorites, but number of views (which leaves room for cheating; also known as the "refresh" button), etc. For instance... [link] This is somewhat amusing, but seriously. *dies*
There are a few select treats in the Daily Deviations section at times... aka, works that get noticed based not on how much of a fan base they have, but on real talent. Still doesn't mean there isn't room for error, though. There's always at least one shitty stock photo in there, just because it has cute little girls playing with bubbles in it or something. @_@

The realism is perfect; it looks so... real! I love the different colours you used, especially in the hair. You're right - she is beautiful!
